Non-pasteurized raw kombucha fermented with organic tea from the mountains of Taiwan, Mum's Tea is a second fermentation kombucha that combines chrysanthemum (菊花 Júhuā), honeysuckle (金银花 Jīnyínhuā), and goji berry (枸杞 Gǒuqǐ).
Holy trinity of natural home herbal remedies.
This unique blend is known as the holy trinity of natural home herbal remedies. The name "honeysuckle" stems from the common tradition of biting off the ends of the flowers to enjoy the drops of nectar inside.
The “chrys” in chrysanthemum translates to "golden" in Greek. In folklore, honeysuckle is believed to attract wealth and symbolize good luck. This interpretation resonates with the Chinese characters for the flower (金银花 Jīnyínhuā), which translates directly to "gold and silver flower."
Infusions made from honeysuckle flowers have anti-spasmodic effects, providing relief from chronic coughs. Traditionally, honeysuckle has been used to treat asthma, upper respiratory infections, and the common cold. In traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), honeysuckle is often prescribed for a wide range of ailments. During the SARS outbreak in China in 2003, it was one of the most popular remedies. Research indicated that the combination of honeysuckle and chrysanthemum was particularly effective in reducing elevated blood pressure associated with hypertension.
Honeysuckle flowers can be applied as a wash for skin eruptions. I repurpose the pulp from bottling the kombucha to create a cleansing wash and body/face scrub.
Both chrysanthemum (rich in vitamin A) and goji berry (which contains carotenoid zeaxanthin) contribute to eye health, possess anti-inflammatory properties, and are packed with nutrients.
